Various studies have proven that wine and certain healthy cocktails have a range of benefits to your health. However, according to the American Heart Association, you only gain benefits from drinking your wine or cocktail in moderation. For instance, a maximum of two 4-ounce glasses of wine or cocktail daily is all you need to gain the following health benefits.
Reduced Risk of Heart Attacks
Unlike non-drinkers, 30% of those who drink wine moderately and suffer from high blood pressure have a reduced risk of having heart attacks. Reduced Heart Disease Risk
A study published in 2006 in Nature and conducted by the Queen Mary University; found that a chemical known as procyanidins is found in red-wine tannins. Reduced Risk of Stroke
Moderate consumption of wine reduces the risk of stroke associated with blood clots by about 50%. This is according to a study carried out by the University of Columbia and published in 2003 in the journal Stroke. The study that spanned a period of 8 years had 3,176 respondents.
Reduced Risk of Developing Type 2 Diabetes
According to a study published in 2005 in the Diabetes Care journal and conducted by the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, moderate wine drinkers have a reduced risk of developing diabetes type 2 by up to 30% compared to their counterparts who don’t drink. The study spanned 12 years and had about 369,862 respondents.
Reduced Risk of Colon Cancer

Reduced Risk of Cataracts
Wine, when consumed moderately, can also reduce the risk of developing cataracts by up to 32% compared to non-drinkers. However, unlike those who consume beer, moderate wine consumers reduce their cataract risk by up to 43%. This is according to a study carried out in Iceland with 1,379 respondents. The findings were published in 2003 in the Nature journal.
Reduced Decline of the Brain
